Jamie Garcia

Freelance Writer/Editor

While my background is in journalism, I prefer creative and niche-content writing to traditional reporting. I tend to favor arts and culture with my biggest interests being film, food, travel, and wellness. I'm a photography hobbyist and a certified yoga instructor as of 2018, and I hold certificates in professional editing and teaching English as a foreign language. Before the pandemic, I lived in Nagoya, Japan where I taught English at a private language school to children and adults. My professional experience includes writing/editing digital content (including recipes) for a Chicago-based publishing company, freelance writing for a beauty and wellness brand, and copywriting, editing, and creating content for a California-based creative branding agency. I'm always looking for opportunities to work with creatives in need of written content, editing, proofreading, and brand development. Please feel free to reach out, and let's discuss how we can work together!

David H Hubbard

Writer and Editor

II think therefore I write. I write intending to think. But not out of the box. I am out of the box, always have been, yet not always where I need to be. Though I have always written, I became a writer once I made it my mission to climb into the boxes of others and help with their stuff; peek in the corners and deepen their space; make room for new and perhaps more inventive possibilities; augment them from other sources or introduce new boxes. Boxes are our worlds; and more likely places we have no reason to escape. They provide the parameters and boundaries we need to navigate and stay focused on our priorities to live freely and work more creatively with what we enjoy and do best. Think out of the box and we are awash; like a loose balloon hissing and dissipating into the ether. Bring it back to the box . I am deeply grateful for my publishers, editors and fellow writers along my way who saw enough to have joined me in my boxes to share their experience, sage advice and valuable tools. . My 30-plus years as a writer and editor in magazine publishing is extensive and varied. This select sampling of articles and columns illuminates the wide range of subject areas and topics I have covered and features only a very few of the people and organizations I have engaged and had the privilege to know and work with. I hope my articles and columns reflect the tremendous pleasure I take in helping others tell their stories. . Through my writing I get closer to the visual artist I couldn't become; more of the jazz musician I wish I were. I find the themes and trains of thought; get a feel for their structure, progressions and flow; then turn my riffs and phrases with an economy of words to deliver a solo worth reading; and always with due respect for the story at hand. It's their song; I am the arranger.

I graduated from Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana in May of 2019. I graduated with a BA degree in English with minors in Marketing and Creative Writing. I am currently a 10th grade English teacher in Brownsville, Texas; however, apart from this, I am also a writer. I have self-published three coming-of-age novels, two republished from 2017 and one published for the first time in July of 2020. I have written over 30 short stories, dozens of articles, and have been published twice in Grace College's literary journal Inkspot. I have also had articles published in two magazines, Women's Spectrum and Grace Connect. In addition to this, I have written many articles for The Sounding Board, Grace College's bi-weekly newspaper. While I have written campus-update articles, I primarily specialized in articles about pop culture, writing entertainment news updates, movie reviews, and album reviews. I have completed an internship at Grace Connect/BMH Books in Winona Lake, Indiana, where I created and edited content for the website. I also assisted in editing book manuscripts and the content in the quarterly magazine.

Jessi Kerlin

digital marketer & writer

Early in my career, I took a chance and left my full-time job to pursue my dreams of becoming a marketing writer. Though brief, my time as a contract digital copywriter sparked the beginning of an amazing professional journey, transforming my life in truly unexpected ways. Since then, I have evolved and continuously advanced through various roles, maintaining a consistent drive for growth and learning all that I can to expand my knowledge and broaden my skill set. Reflecting on this journey, I am most proud of the following accomplishments: • Initiating and overseeing an entire website makeover and redesign project while working at NMB (now Better Life), which required extensive project management skills and technical expertise. • Advancing at CRS from marketing associate to a leadership role, which included two core functions — managing all digital marketing initiatives, including multi-brand social media platforms, and overseeing the coordination and participation of 20+ trade shows per year. • Familiarizing myself with the AEC industry after starting with Flad Architects, taking ownership in the successful and timely delivery of countless high-quality proposals as well as assisting with content strategy/curation and coordinating digital marketing/social media efforts across a national practice. • Pursuing my passion for writing and digital marketing with Affiliated Engineers — a role encompassing strategy, content creation, social media and website management, and coordination of all digital marketing platforms, campaigns, and initiatives. I am so grateful to be more than just a single role depicted by a single job title — I am a passionate copywriter, creative thinker, energetic leader, content strategist, social media guru, and reliable teammate — not to mention an enthusiastic freelancer, devoted cat mom, avid cook/baker, and aspiring world traveler.
