I'm Mya, I'm 20 and I am currently a third-year journalism student at London South Bank University. I would love to become a full-time journalist. I have always enjoyed writing and to do that for a living would be amazing to me.
I am currently working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a minor in political science and a minor in peace and social justice. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2024 from Florida Gulf Coast University. My journalism journey started in 2017 when I joined my high school's news magazine, the Eagle Eye, where I quickly jumped from a writer to a copy-editor, to the Editor-In-Chief. My writing has been published in notable publications such as The Guardian U.S. and U.K. and the Miami Herald.

Carla McCanna is a full-time student at Southern Methodist University striving for a B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. While she thrives in writing and story-telling, she is passionate about all things digital media, seeking the continued development of her journalistic skills. On-campus, Carla is a member of the Association of Black Students (ABS) and occasionally works on SMU campus media. Through these experiences, she has mastered all primary roles of broadcast production, delivered local news to the SMU population through digital stories, and helped start an investigative project -- an interactive timeline of human rights on the SMU campus -- through her research within the university news archives. Carla also worked as the undergraduate journalist and blog manager for The Hunt Institute of Humanity and Engineering in SMU's Lyle School of Engineering. Here, she managed the Institute's blog, interviewed industry leaders, and wrote/edited blog features, project updates, and social media posts. Additionally, Carla has experience copyediting, having worked with the Institute to edit multiple, long-form engineering project impact reports. Off-campus, she recently completed an internship with The Dallas Morning News, where she assisted the cause-marketing initiative team called "FWD>DFW" and the DMN Charities. In this role, she developed editorial and multimedia journalism skills: researching, interviewing, developing feature stories, writing articles with published by-lines on dallasmorningnews.com, outlining podcast and event agendas, and copyediting work. In addition to being a full-time student, Carla currently works as a freelance journalist for Addison Magazine, where she covers news, entertainment, arts, food, and medical beats for the North Dallas Corridor area. Other experience includes a background in multimedia production and social media content creation and management. She has advanced knowledge of Adobe photo/video-editing software, Microsoft Office, and WordPress and is proficient in various data analytic tools: certified in basic HTML, beginner Google Analytics, and has an Excel Specialist certification. *Resume ("CV") and social media accounts are linked below. *Click the envelope mail icon (✉) below to get in touch through a quick messaging form.
