Catherine MacGillivray

Writer, Editor & Communications Professional

I have extensive experience in journalism and communications in the UK and the Caribbean. Currently, I work with Compass Media (Cayman Islands) as a contract writer and project manager for the company’s special publications department and its multi-media, in-house creative agency Compass Content. I also work independently on other writing, editing & content-creation commissions. Past experience includes leading Compass Media’s editorial department through a company restructuring, as well as editing several of the publishing house’s magazines and special publications. Previously, I was employed by Government Information Services (Communications & Marketing) for the Government of the Cayman Islands (a British Overseas Territory). This involved writing media releases, organising press conferences, conceptualising and running publicity and educational campaigns, writing speeches for Ministers (including the Premier) and senior civil servants, working with the video unit, taking photos and organising events, as well as managing social media pages. For the first half of my career, I worked in news in the UK, before moving into features and copy writing, I've specialised in a number of subjects, including homes & gardens, travel, business reporting, entertainment, government communications and speech writing. I also enjoy photography. Please see the following examples of my work from the past few years.

Jack Queen

Journalist

Hi. You can find some of my favorite clips below. Stories will save us, I hope. Thanks for stopping by.

Dom Jones

Copywriter. Storyteller. Griot.

With over 10 years of professional writing experience, and having been published on Huffington Post, Blavity, Ebony.com, Black Girl Nerds, and other publications, I bring a fresh and honest voice to my writing. Putting a critical lens on topics ranging from music to politics, and finding the intersections between what's happening at a macro level and what people see in their daily interactions is my specialty. A 2014 Runner Up in the SF Book Festival, a 2014 International Songwriting Competition Winner, a 2015 NYC Web Festival Official Selection, and a 2019 Canales Project Composer, my work has been recognized in the written, musical, and visual realms. I crave proper punctuation, spelling, grammar and engaging prose - while also recognizing how deep and meaningful communication becomes when the different patois of communities is acknowledged as proper as well.

Sean Fleming

Writer, editor, journalist

I'm a writer, editor, and journalist based in the UK. My main areas of focus are technology, retail and retail logistics, marketing, public relations and the media, politics, and music. Over the last 20 or so years, I’ve launched online & print titles, written for UK national & regional newspapers, ghost-written books, and had work syndicated worldwide. I've also spent several years as a PR and marketing consultant, and have worked with many Fortune 500 companies, as well as startups and challenger brands.
