Freelance Reporter & Journalism Student
Hi there! I'm Ranee (it rhymes with salami) — an international journalist and graduate student at Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Culture, in Wales, U.K. I've reported overseas in Prague, Czech Republic, and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on topics ranging from river pollution to segregated schooling. In all of my work, I aim to bring the human voices and lived realities behind the headlines into focus. In 2026, I graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where I studied national security and diplomacy. During my time in Washington, I worked with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development before deciding to pursue journalism professionally, thanks to my time with my school newspaper, The Hoya. Raised in a multicultural family outside of Birmingham, Alabama, I’ve always been intrigued by the nuances of places and people. From Alabama to D.C. to newsrooms abroad, I’ve learned the world is somehow both bigger than we imagine and much smaller than it seems — and that there is a story waiting to be found almost everywhere. I've barely scratched the surface. For now, I invite you to explore a few of the stories I’ve found along the way.
