I craft stories that connect brands and audiences, whether it’s a feature, a blog, or brand-driven copy. I love diving in and translating complex ideas into clear, compelling stories. I ask questions that get people talking and dig deep for the moments that make a story blossom, making sure the message resonates with the people who matter the most. Dependable, curious, and deadline-driven, I deliver content that informs and inspires action.

Karen Connelly

Senior Copywriter · Copy Editor

Hi, I'm Karen—a copywriter and copy editor from the southern New England/NYC area. I began my career in New York working in children’s book publishing—my first love. As a wet-behind-the-ears marketing assistant at William Morrow, I created playful promotional materials for five children’s book imprints. A few years later I sashayed two city blocks over to magazine publishing, where I honed my craft in art/editorial production. My real education came from years spent at Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Family Life, Travel + Leisure, House & Garden, and Real Simple. Hot damn, New York City in the ’90s was fun. Since then, I’ve collaborated with companies across food, fashion, tech, travel, beauty, automotive, and medical research. While writing is my primary expertise, I also bring a strong visual sensibility to the work. Most recently, I create content and concepts for Conair and its family of brands, including Cuisinart, BaByliss, scünci, and Waring. I wrote product copy for web retailers, packaging, video scripts, blogs, and catalogs—words for thousands of products that reach millions of people. Beyond the writing, I’m a wife, mother of three, potter, dog lover, live-music regular, former rock-and-blues singer, OG m-dasher, and proud Oxford comma loyalist.

Mercedes Holmes

Writer

With more than a decade of professional writing experience, I love transforming complicated ideas into content that actually makes sense (and gets clicks). I've spent the last several years immersed in the creativity and chaos of a startup design service turned full-blown marketing agency, virtual assistant service, and online marketplace. In addition to writing the agency's web copy and administering the blog and resource pages, I was the initial creative working with clients during each pilot launch, testing the service, figuring out what worked, and finding solutions for what didn't. After years of swapping professional titles and job responsibilities multiple times each week, sometimes several times in one day, settling on one career title is a challenge. I am a copywriter, a technical writer, a marketer, an SEO specialist, a customer account manager, and a virtual assistant. And, I have recently added AI reinforcement trainer to my virtual name badge. I currently split my time between writing for humans and training AI to do the same. I work hands-on with specialty large language models, using my biology degree and medical background (this is where the technical writing experience comes from) to assess, and correct LLMs intended for healthcare deployment. I like to think that I am doing my part to make sure that AI doesn't go all "Skynet" on us... or that it will at least be a benevolent, honest overlord (with a proper vocabulary) if it does.

Allyson Ferrari

Reporter, Baldwin Herald

I am a journalist in the New York metropolitan area, where I serve as the sole engine behind the Baldwin Herald. From investigative reporting and conducting multiple interviews weekly to final layout and production, I manage the entire lifecycle of a local newspaper. A 2024 Salem State University graduate and former Editor-in-Chief of The Log, I thrive on the high-velocity demand of 6-10 articles per week. When I’m not on a deadline, I’m immersed in the literary world as a Senior Bookseller at Barnes & Noble, where I’ve spent the last four years building displays, taking charge of events and social media, and most importantly, connecting readers with their next favorite story. My ultimate goal is to bring this blend of boots-on-the-ground reporting and deep literary analysis to the New York Times Book Review.
