Writer
Early on I was referred to as a business and banking whiz. I excelled at commercial banking and business consulting, and I moonlighted in cartooning and screenwriting. My evenings took a turn away from entertainment when a banking client asked me to write STARTING UP, a guide for starting and managing your own business. Subsequently, I transitioned to investment management where I oversaw investor communications for a major investment management firm. My real estate and investment savvy grew exponentially during this period as did my writing, designing and editing abilities. Since then, I've owned and operated two successful businesses and I've continued to hone my writing skills. Scripting, training, correspondence, advertisements, marketing and sales materials, investment reports and newsletters are just a few of the types of communications in which I have experience. I would welcome an opportunity to work, learn and grow with you.

Freelance journalist
Hi! I'm a London-based freelance journalist with experience across the newsroom at multiple national newspapers. During my first year at The i (inews.co.uk) - the 2024 national newspaper of the year - I have written, edited and live blogged across the breaking news, world, sport, SEO, culture and comment desks, while I continue to develop my sports reporting and live blogging skills at BBC Sport and Fantasy Football Scout. I've written about the Olympics for both The i and RadioTimes, and my time as a dedicated sportswriter at another national newspaper, the Cayman Compass, gave me experience covering a wide range of sports, from grassroots up to world championship level. You can also find my byline in other publications including NBC, the Pacifica Tribune, Swimming World Magazine and SwimSwam Magazine. During the completion of my master's degree in Journalism (with a data journalism focus) at Stanford University ('23), I used my experience as an international athlete to single-handedly provide in-depth coverage of the university's renowned swimming and diving programs as a staff writer for The Stanford Daily. Meanwhile, my bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bath ('22) fuels my desire to improve the way science and health news is reported in the media. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any story ideas as well as freelance writing, editing, copywriting or similar opportunities (remote or otherwise) - you can find me on Twitter (@dakers_alex) or LinkedIn, or email me at: [email protected] You'll find categories to filter my work (all sorted by the latest stories first) below - thanks for coming, and I hope you enjoy reading!

Reporting fellow at the Fort Worth Report
I have a passion for political reporting, education reporting and photojournalism. I'm also experienced in writing breaking news and feature stories, and I enjoy travel and creative non-fiction writing on the side. I'm a journalist for two reasons: I love the heart behind reporting, and I love the art behind storytelling. I'm currently a reporting fellow at the Fort Worth Report, reporting on school districts and arts around Arlington, Texas. Previously, I interned at Al Jazeera English's Fault Lines documentary series in Washington, D.C., and I was the former managing editor at The University of Texas at Arlington's student publication, The Shorthorn. You can contact me at [email protected].
