Raised in the south by a single mother, Sabrina Layne Garity grew up riding horses and running barefoot through fields. She attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington and received a BFA in Creative Writing. After graduating, she moved to New York City and completed her MFA in Creative Non-Fiction at The New School under the study of esteemed writers such as Zia Jaffrey, Robert Polito, and Honor Moore.
