Life in theatre is not easy, by any means, no matter what your role in a production is. I mean it, whether you're a technician, a performer, in front of house, a part of the creative team, etc, working in theatre can be difficult in a way that audience members and non-theatre people don't always understand.
I've had glasses since I was in fifth grade--originally I just needed them for when I was at the movies, or sitting in the back of the classroom, but in the 12 years since I got my first pair, I've progressed not only to needing them full-time, but to being entirely reliant on them.
I recently had a conversation with a friend about American Girl Dolls, and their stories. It made me think about how much these dolls have impacted mine and many other young children's lives. If you don't know, American Girl Dolls are a 18" dolls which portray 8-11 year old girls of a variety of ethnicities, backgrounds, and historical time periods.
If you've been on any form of social media in the past five months, you've probably heard of the musical "Hamilton". Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, previously known for his musical "In the Heights" which was awarded multiple Tony and Drama Desk awards, "Hamilton" is about the founding father Alexander Hamilton and his role in the creation of the United States of America.
