Silvina Pezzetta

Ph.D in Law

United Kingdom

I am an academic in animal law and animal ethics with more than 15 years of experience. I studied law and did a PhD in law, and I practiced as a lawyer in Argentina for five years before joining CONICET, the main scientific research institution in Latin America, as a full-time research scientist.

I am honored to have been awarded paramount international fellowships, such as those from the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, the Animal Law & Policy Program at Harvard Law School, the Tiny Beam Foundation, and the Culture & Animals Foundation. In addition, I was a member of the Instituto Latinoamericano de Estudios Críticos Animales (ILECA), where I was involved in editorial work, conferences organization, and training programs.

I taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at different universities in the country, and I also served as the Academic Secretary of the most important organization that trains lawyers in Argentina, CIJUSO, where I initiated the first series of online training courses in the country.

As an animal rights expert, I have filed Amicus Curiae in national and international cases and also gave pro bono legal advice to animal rights groups in Argentina. I have given numerous interviews for mass media and also participated in podcasts on animal rights.

My interest in helping animals led me to go beyond the boundaries of academia, actively participate in animal rights campaigns, and get involved in social networks for dissemination. I am the creator and administrator of @eticaanimal, which has over 11,000 followers. I recently started a volunteer position to create social media content for ICARE, a new French NGO that aims to train in the legal area of animal rights.

I have added AI regulation and privacy issues to my interests and work part-time for a Danish company involved in an EU-funded project, AI4 Gov. In this position, I am in charge of preparing deliverables on ethical principles for the development of AI used in governance, with a special focus on gender discrimination issues.
