It all started six months ago, in a living room in Dublin. André Bastié needed to transcribe twelve interviews for an academic research project on Social Entrepreneurship for his masters in e-commerce in DCU. He quickly realised that transcribing just a single one hour interview could result in up to five hours of work for him.
Some €77,461 was spent on the installation of the new turnstiles in the library on the Glasnevin campus, according to information obtained under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. DCU library applied to the DCU Incorporation budget to secure funding to streamline the security systems and architecture between the O'Reilly library on the Glasnevin campus and the Cregan library on the St.
F ear. That's all that Máire can recall. It seeped into her veins, into her mind and into her soul. On the day that Máire was diagnosed with breast cancer, all she heard was the dreaded c-word but all she felt was fear.

DCU Rooms has 16 rooms on the Glasnevin campus available for open-bookings for tourists throughout the academic year. The rooms are available on sites such as Expedia and are available to book for around €100 a night with breakfast provided on the Glasnevin campus canteen.
Lorcan walked into the Gay Men's Health Services (GMHS) on Baggot Street in Dublin back in September for his regular STI check. As he entered, he saw a poster on a wall. It was regarding the HPV vaccine for men who have sex with men.
Contemporary romance novels are normally littered with predictability, cringe-worthy chance meetings and, of course, love and attraction at first sight. However, for Eithne Shortall's debut novel, this could not be further from the truth. While the main plot is a tale of love and the woes that are involved, there are so many dynamic subplots that really enrich the complexity of the novel.
DCU started the development of 560 new student beds on the Glasnevin campus last week. The new residences will be built on part of the existing soccer pitches with the plan to reinstate the pitches after the construction is completed. The location of the new relocated pitches has not yet been decided.

President of DCU, Brian MacCraith, thinks Minister Bruton's new funding allocation model avoids the biggest issues of funding third-level institutions. MacCraith is critical of how this could really benefit the institutions when there is still "gross-underfunding" in the education sector. "The bottom line is the ability for us to deliver high quality higher education for students.
The opening scene of BBC's Peaky Blinders is exactly as you would expect. The cinematic techniques ensure you are greeted with the very embodiment of Birmingham grime in the 1920s. You see smoke, violence, old-fashioned newspaper mastheads and, of course, the peaky caps.
The Students' Union offices were broken into and ransacked on Sunday night, according to the SU president Niall Behan. A drone belonging to the VP for Welfare and Equality, Podge Henry, was stolen alongside a lot of equipment from the DCUfm studio including cameras and chargers.
DCUSU President Niall Behan was attacked while walking home from DCU to Glasnevin two weeks ago. The attack occurred at around 6:30pm on the Tuesday and it is believed that 5 young men in their late teens were involved. The attackers tried to take Behan's phone and when he refused, they struck him across the face with a bat.
"O ur Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name," is forever ingrained in the minds of any young person who attended a Catholic primary school. A prayer in the morning, a prayer before or after lunch and then a prayer before you left school for the day.
DCU Students' Union received a petition for a referendum on the university's stance on a united Ireland last week. The petition, which was submitted by DCU's Sinn Fein Republican Youth (DCU SFRY), is requesting that the university defines its stance on unity in Ireland and, if passed, they want to call on the Government to vote on a united Ireland.
DCU Students' Union voted in favour of supporting the reunification of Ireland on Friday. A total of 1,494 students voted to support the movement which was 76 percent of the overall votes counted. DCU Students' Union not only supports Irish unity after this referendum, but will also call on the State to hold a referendum on the reunification in question.
DCU are calling on policy makers to regulate "the escalating and uncontrolled pricing" of the student housing sector. Two weeks ago, this newspaper revealed that purpose-built student accommodation complexes around the Glasnevin area increased the rent for the upcoming academic year by over 20 per cent each.
Postgraduate students are unhappy with the increase in rent and change in lease length that occurred over the summer, according to Student's Union postgraduate officer, Allan Stevenson. Speaking to The College View, PhD students, who wish to remain anonymous, said they are quite discontent with what has happened with their accommodation.
The atmosphere of the 3Arena was alight when Imagine Dragons took to the stage on the 26th of February. While their unexpected opening tune 'I Don't Know Why' wouldn't have been the first guess for the song to kick off a fantastic night of live music, it did exactly as it should have.
DCU aims to become the first Irish university to become completely 'plastic-free' by 2020, following the immediate removal of all plastic cups from all three campuses this week. Single-use plastic takeaway containers, takeaway cutlery and single-use plastic bags will be among the items eliminated from campuses by September.
We spoke to the major political parties about what they hope to achieve in this year's budget in relation to third-level institutes. Now that the budget has been released here are their hopes so we can see what was achieved: Fianna Fáil Fianna Fáil wants to restore the postgraduate grants and allocate extra funding towards Higher-Education institutes in this year's budget, according to Fianna Fáil spokesperson for Education Thomas Byrne.

University College Dublin (UCD) was the only Irish university to be placed in the top 100 universities for graduate employability, according to QS World University Rankings 2018. DCU and Bank of Ireland (BOI) are working together to support Ballymun Kickhams GAA club by offering study support to leaving cert students. The student volunteers offer free tuition to the Ballymun leaving cert students in whatever subject they need assistance in.
Craig McHugh is a 21-year-old second year Economics, Politics & Law student. He is hoping to better the INTRA portal, start a book-swap app and hold more events on campus. McHugh feels like he is a suitable candidate for the job because he believes his experience in students politics will help him in his role.
Callaghan Commons is a final year analytical science student, current health and science convenor and the sole candidate for DCU Students' Union VP for Academic Affairs. Commons wants to introduce interactive study spaces, wants to extend the 24-hour access to the library to peak assignment time and to work with boards to increase the speed in which continuous assessment feedback is given to students.
The societal costs of having MS is €10,000 higher in Ireland than the rest of Europe, according to a study published in the Journal of Medical Economics. The average individual cost of people living with MS in Europe was last reported at €36,400 per year while the average individual cost for people in Ireland is €47,683 per year.

Houses with number 13 sell for much less than other properties, a new report has found. Superstition is a key factor when buying properties, with door number 13 being a whopping €4,355 cheaper than the average Irish property price. This could benefit house hunters who don't believe in the unlucky number 13, Martin Clancy of Daft.ie said.

Niall Horan took to the 3Arena on Monday night as part of his Flicker world tour and blew the crowd away. DCU students held a protest over rent increases of over 20 per cent in privately-owned student accommodation in the Glasnevin area on Thursday. The purpose-built Shanowen Square accommodation complex recently announced a rental increase of 27 per cent for the 2018/2019 academic year while the operators of the nearby Shanowen Halls announced an increase of over 23.5 percent.
Dublin City University is to provide around-the-clock emergency supports to staff and students through a new safety app, which links users with the college's emergency response team. The SafeZone app is being made freely available to DCU students and staff - almost 19,000 people - across its Glasnevin, St Patrick's and All Hallows campuses.
Universities should increase the entrepreneurship taught in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, according to a recent report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The review looked at five higher education institutes selected by the Department of Education and the OECD.

DCU Media Production Society (DCU MPS) Shanowen Shakedown has brought the eyes of the country on the current student accommodation crisis in DCU. Last week, SU representatives and students organised a mass sleep out protesting the fee increase. Shauna Bowers and Mark Carroll reports.
