Tributes paid to 'brilliant' young Irishman who died while fixing his car

Tributes have been paid to a young man who died after being trapped under a car in a tragic accident. Ryan Briody from Castlepollard, Co Westmeath, passed away after the incident in Kinnegad at around 8pm last Friday. It is understood that he became stuck under a car he was working on, before being rushed to Tullamore General Hospital.

Man shot dead outside gym in Irish city named as Zach Parker

A man was gunned down in a terrifying attack outside a gym over a drug debt last night. Zach Parker, who was in his early 20s, was blasted in the head and chest just yards from his family home in Swords, North Dublin, at 7.30pm.

Wexford hurling star Lee Chin has rejected claims that his decision to become a full-time athlete has negatively affected his performances on the field after a "disappointing" inter-county season. Earlier this year the 25-year-old revealed that he no longer had a day job outside of hurling and was instead supported financially by sponsorship deals, which allowed him to focus fully on his sporting commitments.

Mairead Ronan believes she was "written off" as a new mother on Dancing With The Stars. The mum-of-three gave birth to daughter Bonnie just four months before filming began, and added that the doubters gave her extra motivation to take home the Glitter Ball Trophy.

Young Irishman who drowned when car plunged into canal named locally

A man who drowned when his car plunged into a canal in Co Cavan on Saturday has been named locally. Daniel Grimes, 26, from Kilteel, Co Kildare, was a passenger in the vehicle with two other men when it left an unmapped laneway and entered a river 3km outside Ballyheady Bridge.

Young man killed in hit-and-run in Irish city named as champion boxer

A young man who was killed in a hit-and-run collision early this morning has been named locally as Kevin Sheehy. Tributes have been pouring in for the talented boxer, who died in the incident that took place at around 4.40am on Monday on the Hyde Road in Co Limerick.

RTE spent €300k of taxpayers' money at this year's Eurovision

RTE splashed out more than €300,000 of taxpayers' money at this year's Eurovision, it was revealed yesterday. The organisation spent €50,000 on hotel accommodation, with the six performers housed in Israel for a total of two weeks, a Freedom of Information request has shown.

Metallica fans have slammed the "misleading" system for next summer's Slane gig after buying the wrong tickets. Concertgoers hit out at organisers over the decision to split the standing sections. There is one regular area priced at €99.50 and Zone A that costs €89.50.

Two toddlers hospitalised with virus in Ireland

Two toddlers have been hospitalised with coronavirus in Ireland. The incidents were notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre between Wednesday and Saturday last week. Both of the youngsters are under the age of four. However the exact age and location of the toddlers has not been confirmed by health officials.

Ireland in full lockdown as all non-essential trips are banned

Ireland is now in full lockdown as all non-essential trips are now banned for two weeks, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced. The measures will begin at midnight tonight, and stay in place until Easter Sunday, April 12. The only exceptions are for travelling to essential work, to shop for food or household goods, for healthcare appointments, and for vital family reasons.

Passengers slam Irish Rail after delay chaos in Dublin's Heuston Station

Fuming passengers were left stranded for hours after a major fault caused huge delays at Dublin's Heuston Station this morning. All trains in and out of the transport hub were suspended indefinitely for a time earlier today after signalling problems. Services did eventually resume at around 9am, but there were significant knock-on delays after the early-morning chaos.

'Lovely' young man who died outside hotel to be laid to rest by grieving fiancee

Tributes have been paid to a "lovely" young man who tragically died outside a Kerry hotel. Darragh Sheehan was found unconscious outside the Gleneagle Hotel on the Muckross Road in Killarney at around 11.40pm on Saturday. Emergency services rushed to the scene but Darragh was pronounced dead a short time later.

Expert gives date Irish tourists can holiday again as destinations emerge

A travel expert has said unrestricted foreign flights must return - and that we could be holidaying in the Canaries by next month. From Monday, only four countries will be on our Green List: Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Liechtenstein. However Ireland is expected to sign up to the European Commission's traffic light system for foreign travel in October.

Horrifying video shows moments before fatal car crash in Irish town

Here is the horrifying moment a car being chased by gardai lost control, colliding with another vehicle and tragically killing the man inside. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 11.30pm when a vehicle that was being chased by Gardai collided with a Skoda Octavia, on Main Street, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan.

A young man was critically injured after being blasted in a gangland murder bid in Mulhuddart, West Dublin on Wednesday.
