Fewer than ten percent of adults have a practical level of literacy in any language--able to figure out and create simple messages. Not quite three percent are fluently literate, able to produce work like what you're "reading" right now but with a keyboard or ink stylus. These rates look like social disintegration...
Murder only half of everybody to solve or even soften all the resource-based conflicts in the universe? Humans were warring over resources when the population was a tenth what it is today. Even chimpanzee troops go to war over resources, FFS.
