The concept of the "movie musical×´ has been thrust back into the cultural zeitgeist as the film industry re-embraces the fun yet risky genre. First came the summer hit "In the Heights," an adaptation of the Lin Manuel Miranda musical. Now, "Dear Evan Hansen" is under the spotlight and facing heavy criticism as it rises in popularity.
Broadway came back with a bang as the 50th anniversary tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar" blessed the stage from Nov. 9-14 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. This spectacular production is a tribute to rock 'n roll and a testament to the power of live performance.

In just four beautifully-crafted episodes, the new Netflix original miniseries "Unorthodox," tells the story of Esty Shapiro, a young woman from an Ultraorthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York. The Yiddish-language drama - loosely based on Deborah Feldman's memoir of the same title - is filled to the brim with authenticity, heartbreak and empowerment.
Plunging their audience into the brutally truthful world of working mothers in today's culture, the Claire Trevor School of the Arts' Drama Department did justice to the theme of their 2019-2020 season, "Women & Co." Their moving production of Lisa Loomer's poignant play "Living Out," directed by Jane Page, opened on Saturday, March 7 at the Robert Cohen Theatre.
Amidst concerns regarding COVID-19, UCI transitioned to remote learning for the 2020 spring quarter and encouraged students to return to their off-campus residencies. The UCI community is now spread all throughout the globe and taking their classes online, which at first seemed nearly impossible for one particular group - the Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA) students.

There's no shortage of comedy specials available on Netflix. However, the streaming service ventured into new territory with the release of their first "long-form improv" special, "Middleditch & Schwartz," on April 21. The special contains three episodes, recorded on different nights of the "Middleditch & Schwartz" tour, during which Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz improvised all their performances on the spot.
