As a marriage and family therapist, I bring empathy to everything I do. The most important factor in shaping behavior is a patient's trust in their provider. I represent it in the words I write, using a compassionate, affirming tone to convey trust, helping patients make healthy decisions and reach their goals.

In each piece I write, I am acutely aware of how much language matters, and how readers and patients are harmed by bias, no matter how unintentional.

I am also a fan of plain language. What good are patient instructions if they are unreadable?

Seeking Support From a Doula

They provide mental, emotional, and physical—but not medical—support during various stages of the pregnancy and childbirth experiences. The support of a doula has been shown to have benefits for the birth parent, baby, and family.
