For the past two weeks, celebrities have been threatening to sue the Apple Corporation for the breach in their iCloud security that allowed several hackers to access their personal information. While the thread was initially titled a derogatory name on the 4chan thread that initially posted it, the fact of the matter is that this hack was nothing less than an invasion of privacy.
John Ramos is revving the engine on his education and is currently on the path to earning his associate degree in Automotive Technology this spring. The 22-year-old San Benito native fell in love with automobiles at a very young age, and has his sights set on working with Ford Motor Company.
The informative presentation began with a recruitment video which featured the day-to-day life of an FBI recruit in Quantico, Virginia. "It's been 20 years since I've been at the academy," said Training Coordinator Adolfo Baesa. "I was an undercover agent for seven years, and now we're looking for the new generation of FBI agents."
"We received 1,001 new voters four years ago, so we wanted to surpass that," said Coordinator of Student Orientation and Activities Larissa Moreno. "We're a very competitive group of individuals, so I knew we could do this."
What started as a job as an English tutor turned into a career that makes a difference in the lives of students for Texas State Technical College Success Coach Mara Hartsell. "I started working as an English tutor in the TSTC Marshall library in 2011," she reminisces.
"Technicians can expect to run into different challenges every day," he said. "It's as if you learn something new continuously because telecommunication is a fast-paced industry, and innovation is key for all the competing companies. There are always new products coming out, and as technicians, we need to remain sharp on all of them."
I plan to attend UTRGV to obtain a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Then, I am hoping to obtain a master's degree. What's your dream job? I hope to become a high school mathematics teacher and possibly work my way up to department chair. What has been your greatest accomplishment while at TSTC?
"What is a policeman?" began the short commentary. "He of all men is at once the most needed, and the most wanted. The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy, and a gentleman."
"I had just gotten divorced and I was so nervous that I couldn't type," she said. "When they gave me another chance, that's when I told myself that I'm going to stay here forever." While Jimenez held several positions during her years at TSTC, she'll be most remembered and missed for the last job she held.
TSTC Student Jeffrey Boles is currently in the process of taking his core educational courses at TSTC in Harlingen and has his career sights set on the business world. The 21-year-old Harlingen native hopes to one day start his own business. What are your plans after graduation?
Upon graduating with my Associate in Biology at Texas State Technical College, I plan on furthering my education in pursuit of an associate in Radiology. I hope to then continue my education to receive a certificate as an Ultrasound Technician. What is your dream job? My lifelong dream is to become a Radiology Technician.
While it's very easy to wonder what a machinist does, the craftsmanship of a tool and die technician is very prevalent in our everyday lives. "We make your refrigerators, fenders, appliances and toolboxes. It just goes on and on," said Limas of the Tool and Die industry.
Manny Chacon, regional director of Business Development and Marketing for Harlingen Medical Center explained the significance of this collaboration with TSTC. "Harlingen Medical Center chose to partner with Texas State Technical College-Harlingen because we, as a health care organization, want to help nurture the future of health care," Chacon said.
"I have been able to grow tremendously with NEI (Naismith Engineering)," said Torres, 35, who started as an entry-level draftsman. "I have learned to be a leader and a responsible employer." The San Benito native currently works in the civil realm of the drafting field, and studied Drafting and Design at TSTC.
"I don't even know who is playing," Rico Rios of Brownsville said. "The real winner is the food - barbecue and beer." Area businesses look forward to the rise in interest from consumers during the annual sport tradition. H-E-B will offer extra sales in the meat department, said Linda Tovar, public affairs manager in the border region for H-E-B.
