East Hall softball team determined to repeat as region champs

East Hall High softball coach Josh Joiner believes his program has high expectations. It starts with trying to earn a Region 7-3A championship this week. "I think what makes us special is that we have the desire to be the best," said Joiner, whose team will face Lumpkin County on Wednesday in the tournament semifinals at East Hall in Gainesville.

Nighthawks celebrate senior night with 5-3 victory

The University of North Georgia's men's soccer team was up 4-0 against Georgia Southwestern University (GSW) Canes in the second half on Wednesday at the UNG Soccer complex in Dahlonega. The Canes rallied and scored three goals in the second half, but the Nighthawks added another goal and kept the Canes out of their net for the rest of the game to preserve a 5-3 senior night win.

UNG women's soccer rebounds after tough week, dominates Lander

After two tough losses, including an overtime defeat in which the Nighthawks led with just one minute left to play in regulation, the UNG women's soccer team had no problem putting away its opponent Wednesday, cruising to a 5-1 win over Lander University.

Second half hat tricks power Nighthawks into the semifinals

It was a back-and-forth battle in the first half when the University of North Georgia women's soccer team faced the University of South Carolina, Aiken, on Oct. 31 in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference tournament in Dahlonega. At the end of the first half it was a scoreless game.

UNG women's basketball claims first PBC tournament championship

There were tears of joy and tears of sorrow at the end of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship. However, there were no signs of sorrow for the University of North Georgia Women's Basketball team as they celebrated their first ever PBC tourney title after defeating Lander 76-60 on March 4 at the Convocation Center in Dahlonega.

North Georgia prevails in OT over Young Harris

The University of North Georgia women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit to defeat the Young Harris College 84-73 in overtime on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Memorial Hall in Dahlonega. UNG came out victorious, but it wasn't easy. "Just frustration, we tried rotating players here and there trying to keep things going," North Georgia head coach Buffie Burson said.

Nighthawks fly to No. 1 in PBC with win over Flagler

The University North Georgia women's basketball team moved to No. 1 in the Peach Belt Conference after defeating the Flagler College Saints 66-56 Monday, Jan. 15 at Memorial Hall in Dahlonega. Both teams had the same record in PBC play and were fighting for the No. 1 spot.

Nighthawks win thriller against rival Young Harris

The University of North Georgia men's basketball team followed a thrilling overtime win by UNG's women's basketball team with a thriller of their own, defeating Young Harris College 90-88 on Wednesday, Jan. 10. "We had some really good games with these guys," UNG head coach Chris Faulkner said.
