I started out as a reporter for daily newspapers in Michigan more than two decades ago. My experience includes writing, editing and other assorted roles for daily newspapers, business publications and spending time doing communications work for an urban public school system and a marketing/communications firm. I've since returned to and am based again in Chicago. My work through the years has landed numerous awards from professional media organizations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, but a highlight was receiving a fellowship in 2007, which allowed me to take paid leave from my job to participate in a two-month leadership and editing program at the University of Nevada-Reno. I've had opportunities to meet, interview and write about a variety of people and topics through the years and I'm always looking forward to my next assignment.
