Bertie Ahern walks out of interview after questions about Mahon Tribunal - Independent.ie

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern walked out of an interview with Germany's international broadcaster after the interviewer questioned him about the Mahon Tribunal. Interviewing the former Taoiseach about the Good Friday Agreement on DW's Conflict Zone, journalist Tim Sebastian changed topic and questioned Mr Ahern on the findings of the Mahon Tribunal, saying; "They said you weren't truthful".

Funeral of Black Widow Catherine Nevin has taken place in Dublin - Independent.ie

According to reports, the short religious service was conducted by a priest and attended by a small group of the convicted killer's family, friends, and former prison mates. The funeral took place at Newlands Cross crematorium in west Dublin. The arrangements were kept under wraps all week to prevent media attention, the Irish Daily Star reports.

The 55-metre round tower was originally built in the 1850s in honour of Daniel O'Connell, known as the Liberator for his work repealing discriminatory laws against Catholics and withdrawing Ireland's union with Britain. Now, after decades of being unreachable, the 360-degree view will offer visitors a panorama from the Mountains of Mourne to Wicklow and Meath to Ireland's Eye.

Bank of Ireland issues warning over new 'number spoofing' scam - Independent.ie

A BOI spokesperson told Independent.ie that number spoofing is "quite a common type of fraud" in which "fraudsters deliberately change the telephone number to match that of a legitimate organisation and ask for personal information". According to the spokesperson, number spoofers use a device that can copy any number to make it look like they are calling from a business or location they are not.

Dublin City University (DCU) students have become the latest to question their Students' Union's stance on abortion. As Ireland prepares for an abortion referendum next year, students across the country are questioning their SU's stance. Earlier this year, the former president of the UCD Students' Union, Katie Ascough, was impeached for removing abortion information from student pamphlets.

Residents urged to prepare for more arctic weather

As winter temperatures continue to drop and forecasts predict another cold spell starting Friday, automobile, heating and plumbing service providers are urging customers to prepare at home and on the roads. American Red Cross officials say 14,000 donations are needed every day to stay within the organization's average supply - with the need just as high during the holiday season. Unfortunately, said Red Cross representative Kelly Isenor, the number of blood and platelet donations decrease this time of year due to regular patients missing appointments, busy schedules and travel.

Good economy expected to spur holiday travel plans

Those taking any combination of planes, trains or automobiles to celebrate the holidays should prepare to share the road and skies with more than 107.3 million Americans, forecasters are saying. According to the AAA, there is a 3.1 percent increase nationwide in travel volume compared to last year that can be attributed to a stronger economy and an increase in consumers' willingness to spend.
