Kathleen Castagnoli

The unexpected publication of a childhood poem first lit my passion for writing—a spark that led me to earn a journalism degree with a news-editorial emphasis and an English minor from San Diego State University.

I launched my editorial career as an intern at The Daily Pilot, a Los Angeles Times community newspaper, and was quickly hired by The South Bay Weekly. After returning to my hometown of Huntington Beach, I advanced to news reporter for The Huntington Beach Independent.

From there, I built a versatile career spanning newspapers, magazines, e-newsletters, advertising and press releases—honing expertise in editing, interviewing, storytelling and content strategy.

I later paused my editorial path to raise my family and pursue another creative calling: floral design. After earning a Floral Design Certificate from Golden West College, I became a California Certified Florist (CCF) and an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). I founded Kat’s Floral Design LLC, blending artistry and business to produce installations, events and workshops.

For five years, I served as Senior Managing Editor at DiversityComm, Inc. (now ConnectComm, Inc.), leading the editorial department in producing multicultural business and recruitment publications across career, education, business and lifestyle sectors.

Most recently, as Managing Editor/Staff Writer at Potomac Publishing’s Insight Into Academia, I shaped editorial strategy and coverage on the most urgent issues in higher education—from AI and faculty workload to mental health and institutional transformation. I also continue to contribute freelance features for Florists’ Review Magazine.
