New initiative prepares high schoolers for career in the sports industry

In honoring the legacy of Leah Chase, the Edgar "Dooky" Jr. & Leah Chase Family Foundation will team up with the Arnie D. Fielkow Family Foundation on a new initiative that provides sports career preparation for high school students. STEM NOLA draws over 300 children to Rocket Day

Confederate monument removed from City Hall in Lafayette, La.

After 99 years, the city of Lafayette, Louisiana has removed the confederate monument of Gen. Alfred Mouton, a six-year call by community activists. The Jim Crow era statue was taken down on July 17, 2021. "Community members have been longing in getting the statue removed and thought time and time again that it would not happen.

New Orleans native accepted into prestigious UK arts school

Since opening in 1949, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will welcome its first New Orleans native, Borris York, who will receive a Master's in Acting. "I understand that this achievement of being the first Black American from New Orleans to be accepted into The Royal Welsh is much bigger than me," said York, in a statement.

New Orleans residents who received the vaccine share the importance of reaching herd immunity

President Joe Biden recently announced that his administration would achieve a goal of 100 million COVID-19 vaccine shots this month. By March 19, the Centers for Disease Control’s distribution tracker confirmed the White House had met its goal to deliver on more vaccines. Amistad Research Center exhibit curates turn of the century Black New Orleans

LSU Students Voice Safety Concerns In the Case of Missing Student Kori Gauthier

Young Black college students took to social media to join in on the ongoing search for a missing Louisiana State University freshman since Tuesday April 6, 2021. In addition to Gauthier’s case, a report outlining LSU’s failed compliance to Title IX reporting stemming from sexual misconduct reports have left many young people and parents in the greater New Orleans-Baton Rouge area concerned about the safety of the state’s flagship Public University Campus.
