Lover of puns, plot-twists, and good grammar; Jenna Smith is a young writer living in Seekonk, Massachusetts. She holds a BA in English and Geology from Union College, where she was the managing editor of the college's student newspaper, the Concordiensis. Recently, she completed a marketing and publicity internship for Reaktion Books in London, England. She is currently seeking a publicity-focused position in the publishing industry.

Two Major and Compounding Crises in the US Examined: COVID-19 and Racial Injustice

This research project investigates the COVID-19 health crisis in the US, how it is connected to racial injustice with health and social inequities placing racial minorities in disproportionate harm, on top of how the Trump administration’s actions/inactions have heightened these issues in such a way that the compounded crisis exposes the most severe, long-lasting and deadly consequences of the politics of structural racism.

Chill Out, It’s Just Winter Term

Satirical article written for the Union College student newspaper pertaining to the treacherousness of winter term. Highlights include a polar vortex, campus emails advising students to walk like penguins and to beware of "falling ice off of building roofs,” and a petition to cancel classes that day being ignored despite temperatures of -22 degrees Fahrenheit.
