Journalist

United States of America

I was 15 when I got my first magazine subscription. At first I was just excited to get my own mail, but the thrill of reading the articles quickly took over. I remember reading my Seventeen magazine cover to cover at least once a day until the next month’s issue arrived. But I didn’t just read it, I studied it. All the details of each article mesmerized me. Not just the story, but also the way the story was written and all the components from the graphics to the font.

During my last semester at KU, I enrolled in a magazine writing course and the professor asked me, “Where did you learn to write like this?” I realized then that my passion for reading and all those years of devouring my favorite magazines had influenced my writing and led me to my dream career, journalism. I have become a better writer and better storyteller throughout my time at KU and my extensive editorial experience.
