February 6th-- With a promising line up of local Burger Babe associated bands such as Froth and Gestapo Khazi, the moment had arrived. Brooklyn-based punk duo, JAPANTHER, had finally made their way to Southern California and they were headlining at local venue, Thee Men's Warehouse in Anaheim!
It was like any other night out for Ruby: Drinks with friends, a little blow and a cute boy who said, "Let's go," so she did. But as she turned onto a side street in downtown Santa Cruz, a siren's wail and flashes of red and blue stopped her in her tracks and changed her life forever.
We recently visited the studio of Ken Davis as he prepared for his first solo show, "It's Alive," which opened at Empire Seven Studios in San Jose last Friday. A fervent proponent of anything and everything handmade, Davis specializes in hand-painted signs and Victorian glass inlay techniques, utilizing these traditional methods to create tongue-in-cheek text-based and figurative works with a contemporary sensibility.
