The entry point to an historical neighborhood, the fruit of a grassroots operation of fund raising, in kind donors of materials and workmanship. It had to respond to the local need for a traditionally recognizable shape but also to the architect desire to avoid mimicking historical forms, and ultimately the relative humbleness of the available materials being donated.

Little Italy Street Fest Brings Out Charming Side of San Jose | Metroactive

Krazy George surrounds me on the walls, as does a jersey of San Jose Earthquakes legend Chris Wondolowski. Photos of former Quakes heroes like George Best, Chris Dangerfield and Landon Donovan also grace the interior of Enoteca La Storia in downtown San Jose, so much that I can almost hear George's trademark gravelly voice and decades-old snare drum.

Little Italy San Jose's "Boss of the Sauce Tournament"

Little Italy San Jose hosting pasta sauce throwdown

Whether you call it sauce or gravy, or make it marinara or meat style, it's all good. In the past, the historic Little Italy San Jose neighborhood has hosted cannoli and ravioli tournaments. Now, executive director Joshua DeVincenzi Melander has decided that sauce needs its day in the sun.

Pizarro: San Jose's Little Italy cooking up a street festival

San Jose's Little Italy district may seem a little bigger when it holds an inaugural street festival this Sunday. The festival will take place on North Almaden Boulevard, which will be closed between Henry's Hi-Life on St. John Street to Paesano Ristorante on Julian Street for the big party.

Little Italy hosts Tuscan-themed gala

Paesano Ristorante Italiano opened its doors in downtown just three years ago, but it has a history that pre-dates almost every restaurant in San Jose. The building, located on Julian Street just off of Highway 87, was constructed in 1885 and originally served as a corner grocery for the first of three Little Italy neighborhoods in San Jose.
