Maree Strange had been thinking about doing something like this for a while. When she discovered Astrid Jansens, a mother of a recent NMIT Te Pūkenga hairdressing graduate, cancer had returned, she decided to act.
These week-long exhibitions are organised and promoted by Level 6 Bachelor of Arts and Media(external link) ākonga (learners) who take on the role of curator, giving them the opportunity to learn and appreciate the amount of work and professionalism that is required in the gallery space.
Pepe is the recent recipient of the NMIT degree scholarship, which awards $6500 to course related costs. As she was not eligible for any fees-free study like some ākonga are during their first year, this was gratefully received.
The class was encouraged to all apply for the Nelson Pine Industries Ltd - Construction/Joinery Scholarship by tutor, Huw Morgan. The successful recipient takes home $1000 for course-related costs and is invited on a tour of the site.
