Black UCF alumni starts handcraft making business amidst the pandemic

Kadeem Stewart faced the effects of COVID-19 on his Black-owned business, as his photography job encountered financial impact. As a full-time professional photographer, Stewart said he had to think outside of the box and find innovative ways to financially support himself. As a small business owner, Stewart said supporting Black businesses during this time is essential.

UCF program "Boots on the ground" helps students get real world experience in the classroom

Due to COVID-19, the semester long "Boots on the Ground" program at UCF has downsized and adjusted their program. According to the School of Teacher Education, the program is known to give future educators the opportunity to gain exposure in the classroom. Students selected for the program provide classroom support to local schools, typically in underserved communities.

Whether it's how to find an internship or how to create a resume, UCF alumni Justin Nguyen provides the "cheat codes" of college with his podcast called Declassified College.

UCF student works to fulfill dad's final wish

Interpersonal disciplinary studies major Maria Bahamon said the UCF Financial Aid Office has made it difficult for her to fulfill her dad's final wish: finish school. On Nov. 11, 2018, Bahamon applied for a medical withdrawal for the fall semester after her father died.

'A cry for help': UCF's black community responds to research indicating blacks are...

Researchers have paid close attention to how COVID-19 is affecting black Americans, and numbers show they are disproportionately affected, according to the CDC. Significant numbers indicate that blacks are being disproportionately affected in cities such as Louisiana, Chicago and Milwaukee. According to Florida Department of Health, Orange County has 1,038 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday evening.

College internships affected by COVID-19 outbreak

The COVID-19 outbreak has put a halt to college internships, and many UCF interns feel they are missing out on hands-on learning experience. UCF's Office of the Vice Provost and Dean sent out an email on March 18 encouraging employers to transition to remote working or co-op experience for the rest of the spring semester.
