Welcome to my portfolio site. I've always had a keen interest in football and soon felt that watching and discussing it wasn't enough. I subsequently began writing for a variety of different sites to showcase my ability, and set up a Twitter account as a vehicle for delivering my work, gaining interest and interacting with like-minded individuals. Whilst I consider football being very much my forte, I have also had articles on music and film published, as a way of demonstrating my versatility. I am into the second year of a Journalism course at the University of Sheffield and have also undertaken work experience placements at The Independent, a local newspaper and Sky Sports' popular football entertainment show Soccer AM. I hope to one day take my recreational love of writing to the next level, and build a career through it. Enjoy the articles; any feedback would be much appreciated.
West Ham claimed a massive scalp on Sunday by beating Tottenham, quite remarkably, 3-0 at White Hart Lane. The Hammers' record at the home of their London rivals had been poor, but Sam Allardyce - playing without a recognised striker - and his side stunned the Tottenham faithful with one of the most incredible results of the season.
After being humiliated at home by Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, you'd have been laughed out of town for suggesting Arsenal would not only be two points clear at the summit of the Premier League at the beginning of October, but also top of their Champions League 'group of death.'
After a week's break, Premier League football returned and there were plenty of new faces making their debuts after another dramatic conclusion to the transfer window. Arsenal's record signing Mesut Özil impressed at the Stadium of Light as the Gunners beat Sunderland 3-1 to, temporarily at least, go top of the table.
It finally happened. The deadline day signing Arsenal fans were craving did materialise at the eleventh hour, as Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano put pen to paper to sign for the club. No, of course it was the capture of Real Madrid's Mesut Özil that had fans, pundits and probably fellow players alike pinching themselves to ensure that the deal was in fact true.
Liverpool went top of the Premier League in another weekend shy of goals as they beat the Champions 1-0 at Anfield. Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of the game, his third of the season, by diverting Daniel Agger's header past David de Gea after only four minutes to maintain Liverpool's 100% start to the season.
