Today, the Board of Regents set tuition for the University System of Georgia (USG) for the 2017-2018 academic year. All 28 of the USG's colleges and universities will keep their tuition increase to two percent, which limits the increase across the University System to $27 to $98 per semester for a full-time, in-state undergraduate student.
Dr. Neal Weaver The Board of Regents today named Dr. Neal Weaver president of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) in Americus. Weaver will assume his new position on July 15, 2017. Weaver is currently the vice president for university advancement and innovation at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.
According to a news release, in the state college sector of the University System of Georgia, Atlanta Metropolitan State College has the highest associate degree graduation rates, the highest associate degree graduation rate for African-Americans and the highest associate degree graduation rate for African-American males.
Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 Elridge McMillan, regent emeritus of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, Atlanta Metropolitan State College scholar-in-residence, and president emeritus of the Southern Education Foundation, will be honored as an outstanding community citizen by Atlanta Metropolitan State College.
"In our part of the country, under the old Jim Crow system," says Arthur N. Dunning, "we had, from the late 1870s to 1964, systems that were separate by law." So now, he says, he's glad to report that the University System of Georgia's in-progress merger of two institutions, across the remnants of that imposed color line, "hasn't raised unexpected issues."
