For me, and many others with physical disabilities, touch is not merely a luxury or a pleasure, but an aspect of my functionality, my basic survival.
I am a freelance writer, editor and podcast producer based in New Jersey and Mumbai. I recently graduated with my masters in journalism from New York University with high honors. My reporting work can be seen in The New York Times, The Click, Catapult, Vogue and other publications.

I was certain my appearance would mask my secret: that I didn't belong. I am convinced street vendors can smell fear. It's a special skill, this ability to sense new nervous energy and within seconds be able to distinguish a foreigner from a local.
