Selected samples from 'THE ZONE' Current Affairs Programme 2025
Hello, I am Shane McCormack and this portfolio is to give just a small flavour of my recent radio work with Cork City Community Radio 100.5FM.
I have been volunteering with the station since March 2025 and have contributed in terms of guest booking, researching, social media promotion, editing, face-to-face interviewing and Vox-pops.
I have participated in a weekly panel discussion called 'The Sunday Papers' in which, as the name would suggest, the Sunday newspapers are discussed in detail by myself and my co-panellists. I get to bring my special interest of politics to this programme.
My work at the station involves me booking guests, researching and have interviewing individuals for 'The Zone', the station's current affairs programme.
Additionally I was given my own show called 'Leeside Speaks' which was a weekly Vox-pop programme in which I would interact with the people of Cork City about a wide variety of topics. I was given full creative control of this show and researched, recorded and edited it myself.
I look forward to creating more content for the station and other outlets in 2026!

Selected samples from 'THE ZONE' Current Affairs Programme 2025
This is an interview with myself and the two well known dereliction campaigners Jude Sherry and Dr. Frank O' Connor. I was eager to put a focus on their individual backgrounds regarding their upbringings and their passion for sustainability which is something that is rarely touched upon when they discuss their activism work on dereliction. I organised, researched, prepared questions and conducted the interview as well as promoted it on social media. It was fitting to have a local angle on...
This was a roundtable panel discussion regarding Cork City's student issues chaired by myself just ahead of Budget 2026. The panel included Labour Senator and Higher Education Spokesperson Laura Harmon, President of MTU Students Union Richard Noonan and President of UCC Students Union Alex Angland. I organised, researched, set the questions and conducted this interview. I felt it was important to put a spotlight on both the universities in Cork City in terms of fees, accommodation, cost of...
This is an interview I organised with Catherine Connolly TD during her campaign for the the presidency of Ireland in the Autumn of 2025. It was agreed that our main host Donal would ask most questions and I would ask intermittent questions regarding constitutional matters to the candidate. I was integral in securing this interview for the station and put a large amount of effort and research into making it an informative experience for our listeners. I also created the social media posts for...
Selected samples of 'LEESIDE SPEAKS' Vox-Pop Specials 2025
This recording is of the 'Raise the Roof' protest that took place in Cork City in June 2025. It includes Vox- pops with national left wing politicians, activists and members of the public. The protest centred on the subject of housing, rents, homelessness and dereliction in the city and countrywide. Housing continues to be the most pressing issue in Ireland and at one point I encountered people such as man who let me know about the challenges he faced and how he fell into homelessness....
This recording is of a Pro - Palestinian demonstration in Cork City in May 2025 and my Vox-pops of those participating. The latest iteration of the conflict in Gaza sparked from the events on October 7 2023 has been kept in the spotlight continuously by the people of Cork City who have every single Saturday afternoon convened on Grand Parade to show their support for the people of Gaza and their opposition to the State of Israel. I spoke with organisers and participants, young and old, Irish...
This is a recording of Vox-pops I gathered during an anti-immigration demonstration in Cork City in June 2025. The motivation for this project was that I felt that while immigration and the far right is certainly a massive topic of discussion that the views of those who participate in such events is very rarely articulated in the mainstream media. This was an attempt to understand the motivations of those who turned up on the day. What I discovered was a diversity of views, some coherent and...
This is a field recording of an event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Marriage Equality Referendum. This event was organised by the Labour Party and featured many individuals from the LGBTQI+ community. I felt there was an interesting dynamic between old and new stances on homosexuality and an interesting take on the ownership of such issues such as the HIV issue in the 1980s and how that has become lost in modern times. Leeside Speaks 26th July 2025 broadcast by Cork City Community Radio.
This is Vox - Pop I conducted on the streets of Cork regarding the fifth anniversary of the Covid 19 pandemic in August of 2025. I wanted to gauge how people felt about the pandemic at this distance and see would their attitudes change if there were another pandemic in the future. The subject of lockdowns, vaccines and the conduct of politicians featured heavily in this programme and I regard it as my favourite piece of work so far for the radio station. Leeside Speaks 23rd August 2025...
This is a Vox- pop recorded by myself and the Cork City public and is an example of the kind of general format my programme would take. In this broadcast I touched on a variety of topics including Dating Apps, Religion, United Ireland and Drug use. Some of it was recorded on Grand Parade Cork while more was done on the UCC campus. I have learned amazing skills and gained a lot of confidence while recording my various Vox-pop programmes for the station. Leeside Speaks 26th April 2025 broadcast...
Selected Sample of Voter Information Broadcast 2025
I wrote and recorded this information message for Cork City Community Radio regarding the Presidential Election on October 24th. I felt it was important to get as much good information out to the public regarding this election as I know from my political science background that there is often much confusion about the method we use to vote and the rules around people with visual impairments for example. I believe that community radio can play a vital role in promoting good accurate information...
