Ad copywriting
Discover’s top-performing Pinterest ad of 2024. When Pinterest told us that mix-and-match nails were a rising trend, I conceptualized this ad to blend into inspo-heavy feeds. Result: +496% video completions over benchmark.
For a co-branded campaign with a famously irreverent partner, I leaned into a quippier tone—balancing brand alignment with a voice that resonated with NerdWallet’s audience.
Writing creatively within the constraints of a regulated industry like credit cards can be tricky. I conceptualized and wrote this ad to highlight a major benefit without stepping outside our legal claim boundaries.
Friendly, persuasive, built to convert. We used subtle visual cues to nod to the holiday season without overwhelming the message.
Capital One has swagger; Discover has charm. When we merged, so did our voices. This banner hits logged-in Capital One users with a fresh wave of Discover-esque warmth, while keeping Capital One’s signature BDE intact. (IYKYK.)
Meta users don’t want fine print—they want tea. So I dumped “Fees” with a breakup text that goes straight for the drama as it announces Discover’s new $0 fee policy.
99 shopping carts, 99% acceptance rate. This quick-hit video turns a stat into a story, making a strong case for why Discover belongs in your wallet.
Cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs means cash back whether you buy one roll of paper towels… or 20.
Why share one when you can each have your own? I wrote this ad to show that adding a loved one to your Discover account gives them their own card and their own scoop of financial freedom.
Capital One customers trust bold offers and straight talk. I wrote this post-merger email to introduce them to Discover Home Loans by combining brand storytelling with sharp benefit messaging: $0 fees, low fixed rates, and no need to refinance. All clarity, no fluff.
To encourage card usage, I anchored this messaging in human need—financial progress, generosity, ease. The copy is designed to quickly answer, "Why should I care?"
Sometimes life throws off your momentum. I wrote this email to re-engage users who started a loan application but didn’t finish. I removed friction with three UX levers: low risk (soft credit check), low effort (fast application), and high reward (hitting PLAY on your goals again).
I focused on emotional resonance while keeping the message clear, confident, and benefit-driven.
When cardmembers add a user to their account, we see revenue increases. But we need to motivate people to action by telling them what THEY get out of it.
This conversion-focused email copy made cardmembers feel seen, turning dry loan details into clear, motivating benefits. Using personalized language and a warm, confident tone to inspire trust and drive clicks, I turned financial hesitation into forward momentum.
The first email (click tile thumbnail to see) performed so well that it was added to the control rotation. In both emails, I created aspirational and succinct copy that invites customers to see their personal loan not as debt but as a vessel to achieve their goals.
Promotional web copy
Discover Personal Loans had big news to share—no more fees of any kind. I collaborated with a UX designer to develop a campaign that delivered that message with unmistakable clarity.
The goal was simple: make the benefits of a Discover home loan instantly clear. I wrote concise, straightforward landing page copy that highlights low fees, competitive rates, and transparency—helping borrowers quickly understand what sets the offer apart.
The data was clear: our client’s guests were captivated by the resort’s water feature. To help attract new visitors, I wrote copy that channeled an ethereal mood, designed to flow seamlessly with the resort’s breathtaking imagery.
As a home security company, we'd spent years selling people’s worst nightmare. We wanted to shift gears from fear-based marketing and instead sell peace of mind. This copy gently reminds users that protecting their family means more than just preventing break-ins. And we're here to help them access what's seen in the image: a family feeling happy and carefree.
To inspire a sense of calm, I curated a selection of soft, soothing “s” sounds—using sibilance intentionally, but stopping short of full alliteration to maintain a tone that felt refined and appropriate for our discerning audience.
These ads ran during the peak of Amazon Alexa’s cultural relevance, tapping into smart home momentum. We refreshed the company’s aging slogan into a tighter, more memorable line—using the suffix “-er” to signal competitive advantages like safety, intelligence, and simplicity without sounding combative. And because home security buyers are often motivated by a desire for control and confidence, the messaging speaks directly to their need for empowerment.
Case studies and market research
The B2B pharmaceutical consulting company Nuventra came to us with a problem: surprisingly, not many people wake up in the morning and Google "pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics consultants." My team got to work determining how to reach warmer leads, in the face of low-volume keywords. I launched the project and got momentum rolling. By the end of Knuclepuck's time working with this client, the client was so successful that it got acquired!
A one-person law practice came to us ready to grow. We began with a strategic information architecture, then dove into content creation. Momentum picked up after a site redesign and CMS migration. As we continued to roll out new strategies, more and more new clients began pouring in. By the end of my tenure at the helm of this site, the company had grown from a one-attorney operation to a thriving, award-winning law firm with several lawyers and paralegals on staff.
We explored and quantified a market opportunity and ultimately found we were missing a large chunk of market share because we were not specifically addressing this demographic's needs. Internal collaborators included marketing, SEO, finance, and HR.
Corporate reporting
I am one of two copywriters behind Discover's annual Corporate Impact (ESG) Report. We glean the previous year's most notable data and spin it into story form. (I'm particularly proud of pages 31, 37, and 42.)
SEO industry thought leadership
What is 10x Content? The content that stands head-and-shoulders above the noise on social and SERP listings must be 10 times better than the current top result. Originally coined by Rand Fishkin, founder of Moz, "10x Content" has less to do with the quantity of content created and more to do with its quality.
You and Google have been seeing each other for a while now and things are starting to get serious. "This relationship is working out really well. Seriously, you're everything I want," Google says as it nuzzles in closer. You try to act normal but have to stifle a sigh, knowing you carry a dark SEO secret: you've been cloaking around behind Google's back.
If I were a betting SEO, I'd wager that your company's website is its lifeblood. It's crucial, then, that your users feel safe while on your site. Savvy internet users will bounce like a bad check if they detect an inkling of insecurity.

Editorial
I ideated, outlined, and wrote this SEO-driven blog post for the B2B SaaS company Ignition, using my own keyword research.
Funnyman Tom Cotter will return to the island for the 7th annual Nantucket Comedy Festival. The former island police officer and runner-up on 2012's America's Got Talent will entertain the masses with his rapid-fire stand-up on Friday, July 18, alongside the writers, producers and cast of NBC's hit show Parks and Recreation.
For many Americans, seals are little more than a childhood memory of a visit to the zoo. But for residents of Nantucket Island, the blubbery marine mammals are quickly becoming a topic of discussion saved only for trusted company.
Help, help! Two tiny seahorses are in desperate need of names, and you might be the only one who can save the day!
Best showcase of my skills is on pages 8–9, where you'll find my tribute to the late Anne Meara, comedienne, actress, and mother of Ben Stiller.
Gorgeous and nude, she stretches luxuriously and perfects her posture before taking a dive to the depths of the smooth body of water sparkling before her.
The kind of silence that exists at the Linda Loring Nature Foundation–where you can see more sky than you ever imagined–is rare, even for Nantucket. The only perceptible sounds are the voices of birds, and Resident Naturalist E. Vernon Laux knows the songs of every one.
Joe Donelan isn't one to grab the mic and crow about his winemaking prowess. In fact, it's hard to even get him to talk about himself. But catch him for a chat, and you'll find the founding owner of Donelan Family Wines casts a calming ...
After decades spent traveling the globe, serigraph master, satire sculptor and painter Donn Russell chose to make his home on Nantucket. Long-time island art enthusiasts may recognize Russell's work from his eponymous gallery on Old South Wharf, which was active from 1978 to 2001.
One would think that being a fine wine aficionado and restaurateur is enough of an enterprise in life. Mark Goldweitz, owner of the Nantucket Wine Festival, partner at several restaurants (including Grill 23, which is widely acclaimed as one of Boston's best steakhouses), and owner of full-service real estate management firm Garrison Square Management, is most passionate about his work reviving homes that are part of Nantucket's fabric.
If all the world's insects were to die, every human on the planet would be dead in six months. Think that's a bold statement? If all the world's insects were to die, every human on the planet would be dead in six months. Think that's a bold statement? Insects recycle used materials and put them back into the earth as usable substances. Without them, disease would take over; the ecosystem would collapse, and would take us down with it. There ain't no exoskeletons about it; insects are...
Theater reviews
Theatre Workshop of Nantucket (TWN) cordially invites you to Dinner, the North American premiere of British playwright Moira Buffini's dark comedy.
It was 1983 when a brilliant young con man was chewing his way through the Upper East Side's upper crust. Nineteen-year-old David Hampton played the same card several times over: he'd visit a wealthy household masquerading as a college friend of that family's Ivy League children.
A door slamming in your face may not be a traditional welcome, but it fits the bill this time around, as Theatre Workshop of Nantucket launches the season with an unconventional British farce. Each seat in the Noises Off audience offers a chair prize in the form of a second playbill—that is, a playbill within a playbill.
Content design
I guide my audience through a multi-step process, then outline my methodology in the final two slides. This was a live presentation, and you'll see my narration copy in the notes section at the bottom of each page.
Our revenue stream was clogged—many customers weren’t activating their systems quickly after delivery. To address this, I partnered with UX, Product, and Customer Care to redesign the setup experience. We created a clear, step-by-step digital guide that empowered customers to get started. After launch, we saw a nearly 20% increase in customers who activated within 30 days of getting their products. Note: this is a pre-production writing example, not the final frame-by-frame product.
