Spring 2016
if you aren’t graduating this year, take advantage of GW’s location. Your chance will be gone before you know it.
I have a hard time understanding any possible justification for bringing Bronson to GW, especially given the importance students here place on progressive advocacy.
I've never been on an airplane. In fact, before last week, I had never really traveled much at all. Before coming to college, I'd been on just a few trips.
My strength as a woman has never been tested. As a straight, white, cisgender woman living in the United States, I haven’t faced more than sexism.
As all students know, a lot of classes – especially at a school with a small-average class size like GW – have a participation requirement. But I don’t think it’s always fair to force students to speak up.
If you were a student at GW in the spring of 2014, you probably vividly remember that semester for more than just the classes you were taking. Over the course of a few months, three students in West Hall on the Mount Vernon Campus died by suicide.
College football games may have an unfortunate connection to sexual assault, according to a study published by researchers at Texas A&M University last week.
Fall 2015
I know very few people who appreciate memes as much as I do. I've noticed that maybe, I can count GW among those who admire the power of internet culture.
The truth is, "women's studies" is no longer a progressive term. In fact, it's outdated. When students major or minor in women's studies now, we aren't just talking about women.
I know what you may be thinking: How could I have waited this long? Haven't I missed a ton of references over the years? Most importantly: What season am I on?
The first person you met at GW probably wasn't your Colonial Inauguration leader, your resident adviser or even your roommate: It was probably your tour guide.

I am a yuccie. In case you haven't heard, "yuccie" is short for "young urban creative" - a cross between a hipster and a yuppie.
Take a moment to think about the number of times you saw University President Steven Knapp in person this past academic year.
Just a few years ago, I called myself a Republican. It's not something I try to hide.
I am a firm believer in the sophomore slump. But I wasn't always.
College students have sex, and everyone has an opinion about it. It's true. Just Google "hookup culture," and you'll quickly find that students have been under close observation.
It’s very scary and completely unacceptable that some professors don’t know where to direct students who confide in them about sexual assault.
Fall 2014
Everyone has an opinion about Ferguson and the recent decision by a grand jury not to indict Darren Wilson. I do, too.
I recently added a small can of pepper spray to my keychain, and I find myself holding on to it during walks home alone in the dark.
If you are a college-aged woman, you're basic. You can't escape that classification. In fact, none of us can.
Last week, the Metropolitan Police Department announced that starting this month, 150 officers will wear body cameras in an effort to increase transparency.
As this year's professional football season starts up, I can't help but feel a slight sense of dread.
Sometimes, going to GW can feel like being in a long-term relationship. There are moments when we lie to each other and have disagreements, but we've always pulled through.
Learning about past hardships is how we come to appreciate the status of women today.
The young adults of every generation think they know more than their parents, including millennials. In most cases, our parents have long since completed their education and have probably spent more time taking care of us than bettering their minds.
Spring 2014
My hometown in Pennsylvania has a population is just shy of 5,500 people. Needless to say, living in D.C. has been quite an adjustment.
At a sprawling institution, how can we possibly get a sense of what GW's true priorities are? The answer: Look at the numbers.
The lack of female representation on the stage at the annual concert is an undeniable trend: Only one female act has headlined Spring Fling since 2000.
Alternative Breaks might seem like an excuse to Instagram yourself hammering a nail into siding, with the caption, "Look at me doing #service!" But forcing myself to get on that bus was one of the best decisions I've made at GW.
For all of their intensity, SA elections feel almost like the frenzy of real-world politics.
Giving alumni exclusive access to enriching academic experiences can help the University raise its alumni giving rate.
In programs that teach aspiring journalists and political strategists - people who thrive on understanding different perspectives - diversity is paramount.
Very few women would put themselves through the experience of reporting sexual violence just because they wish they hadn’t had sex with someone under the influence.
Fall 2013
As finals season quickly approaches, we're all looking for something - anything - to take our attention away from writing essays and studying for exams. For many, Buzzfeed is an answer.
The University undercut students' incentive to think globally when it removed the liberal arts requirement for its undergraduates to take a foreign language.
The consensus among those not particularly interested in women's issues, depressingly, is that feminism is irrelevant. At GW, this isn't the case.
Students enjoy bragging rights by going to school in the nation’s capital. But the name of our National Football League team is not something to boast about.
Spring 2013
The Mount Vernon campus does not even employ a nurse, which is a huge problem for students living there.
