Ramya Jegatheesan is a freelance writer, editor, photographer and documentary filmmaker. She completed an Honours BA in anthropology, political science, and English from the University of Toronto and her Master of Journalism at Ryerson where she specialized in online and documentary journalism.
She worked on the award-winning film, The Creator's Game: The Quest for Gold and the Fight for Nationhood, which premiered at the ImagiNative Film Festival in the fall of 2011, and won the Viewer's Choice and Naish McHugh Emerging Filmmaker's Award at the Toronto Urban Film Festival for Footprints in 2012.
Ramya has interned at The Globe and Mail's Washington D.C. bureau and worked at the CBC's multimedia desk. Her most recent documentary, The Playful City, screened at the 2013 COMMFFEST Community Film Festival as well as the Regent Park Film Festival. She is currently working on a new documentary about the Greenock Swamp.
