UX/CRO
--- WHAT DO I DO? ---
I build businesses with words.
Seasoned copywriter, UX problem-solver, and messaging strategist, with deep roots in the startup space (Root; Hippo; Clearcover; Sealed; Huckleberry, and others). I specialize in fixing high-consequence communication problems for startups with fewer than 150 employees (or any business with the agility and intent to make meaningful, strategic changes to achieve a goal).
I ask, "What would a real human being need to know to take action on your offer? How can we best care for that person and make them feel safe with your business?"
And then I use those answers to craft a holistic, marketing-to-product messaging experience that will attract, convert, and care for your ideal customers.
--- WHY HIRE ME? ---
I wrote my first story when I was four years old. Then, a year later, I started my first business.
Fast forward a few decades, and I still do mostly the same things.
Except now, I get hired by growth-minded businesses and early-stage startups because I bring a pretty rare combination to the table: problem-solving mojo + business instincts + serious copywriting chops.
I have a terminal degree in writing, too, which doesn't hurt.
But at heart? I'm an entrepreneur. I can do a lot, do it quickly, and I know how to prioritize. I figure stuff out and make things happen. And I would love to make amazing things happen for you.
UX/CRO

Getting customers to enable notifications near the top of an app-forward intake funnel is tricky. Creating trust in the beginning and then justifying each request in simple, consistent, ESOL-compatible copy goes a long way!
Asking someone to scan their license is a big ask and there wasn't much room to set expectations. I opted to frame it as fun (it was, thanks to the designer!) and use calming, non-aggressive language to reassure the customer that they were safe with us.
This climate tech company needed copy direction for a lengthy TOF flow. I opted for a conversational style mixed with psychological "pings" to keep the customer moving.
Humans hate having their location tracked. Here's how I convinced them not to shut off location services.

One of my ninja skills is simplifying complex topics. Here's a good example.

An article written to intercept potential customers as they were beginning to think about starting a business.
An article targeted to address the pain points of the company's ideal customers. Written to fulfill SEO requirements—but you'd never know from the copy.
A readable, human-focused article that turned a controversial study into an opportunity for a business to offer needed perspective.
This article gave me the opportunity to delve into my own entrepreneurial background—which is why it digs deeper than most brand journalism on this topic.
A focused recap of the small business challenges of 2020, with an accompanying infographic.
Here, a complex tax law is simplified so that everyday homeowners can understand.
