The Multicultural Summit was designed as a replicable regional program encompassing a collaboration of multicultural architectural communities within a chosen urban environment. The first Multicultural Summit, entitled "Strength Through Diverse-Cities", launched at the Dallas Center for Architecture in September 2012.
Melissa Daniel, Assoc. AIA, got jazzed about the architecture profession during a summer high school enrichment program. But once she started studying architecture in college, she felt disconnected from what she was learning and how it was taught. "I struggled with being culturally different," Daniel wrote in a blog for the National Organization of Minority Architects.

I believe the 32% is actually recorded higher because licensed architects who identify themselves as women choose not to volunteer in architectural surveys, join AIA or be part of any architecture group unless such activities are driven by their employer.
I am at my first official face-to-face Diversity and Inclusion meeting since I was appointed, and I am amazed at the talent surrounding me. It includes the VP of AIA, a couple of FAIA's, a PhD, and a Hunt Fellow.

Melissa Daniel, Assoc. AIA, was recently recognized by the District of Columbia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies (DCCEAS) with the Architect of the Year Award. She was also recently awarded the "Emerging Architect" Award in Award in AIA|DC's 2012 Honor Awards.
Melissa R. Daniel, a designer at KCCT Architects in Washington, wants to help more women become licensed architects. She was selected in 2012 for the Emerging Architect Award by the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and in 2013 as the Young Architect of the Year by the District of Columbia Council of Engineering & Architectural Societies.
Melissa Daniel is recognized by AIA|DC with an emerging architect award.
