Margaret Menge

Journalist

United States

I started off in journalism in the New York office of U.S. News & World Report, working for columnist John Leo. I was John's liaison to the fact-checking desk and to the syndicate, and helped with interviews and copyediting his weekly column, giving it one last squinty-eyed read-over. I went on to freelance for the magazine, writing about the developing New York cocktail scene and the launch of a new airline for the features section. While in New York I also wrote an essay for the Columbia Journalism Review, a piece on a young classical music composer for The New York Observer and a story on the math behind Hillary Clinton's $8 million book deal for the New York Press, which was picked up by the New York Post's Page Six.

In 2005 I escaped the city and went up to the Hudson Valley to take a job as the editor-in-chief of The Cornwall Local, a 180-year-old weekly paper that operated out of an old barn. A few years later I moved to the Florida Keys to work for The Miami Herald Company as a deputy editor.

In 2010 I moved to Palm Beach County and worked for Newsmax, mostly on a global forecasting website called LIGNET, with former CIA analyst Fred Fleitz.

In 2015 I started a weekly newspaper in Palm Beach County - the Lake Worth Tribune. In its short life, it is credited with saving the city's extraordinary Atlantic beachfront, which the local politicians had decided should be sold off to a developer.

For the last several years I've worked on news websites with teams of reporters and editors, jumping in to cover stories, edit and post. I'm always thinking about better ways to tell stories, better ways to write headlines and how to make a subject come to life for the reader.

I am available for freelance work. Feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you.

Early Vaccine Injury Reports and What They Say

The media reported that the reason the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was pulled was because just six women out of 7 million people who got the shot had a blood clot. I don't think this is true. If you look in the VAERS database where health-care providers,...

Menge: A Bailout that Doesn't Bail Out

What if the government decided to give a massive amount of money to small businesses to help them survive a pandemic but forgot to include anything to make sure the money was really going to businesses that needed it? It would seem like a fairly big oversight. But...
