Academic Writing
Luke Schultheis received his Associate's Degree from Butler County Community College and recently graduated from La Roche University with a professional writing & journalism degree. As Layout and Sports Editor of the school's Redhawk Post, he has a strong passion for combining writing with design. Most of his days are spent searching for a new favorite album or watching football. On the weekends he spends his time serving at a restaurant. Luke loves hanging with friends and family and can never say no to a long road trip. He also enjoys creative writing and wrote a novel for his high school senior project.
Academic Writing
This is a grant proposal I wrote for my Writing for Nonprofits class. We picked a real nonprofit to pitch our ideas to, however, the names used in the project are fake. The proposal includes each step of grant writing such as an executive summary, narrative, and dissemination plan. We also came up with social media ideas and campaigns to tie into our missions.
This is an article I wrote for the Butler Eagle regarding couples that got married after going on blind dates. I interviewed one couple in person, and the other over the phone. This project helped me gain skills in interviewing and coming up with thought-provoking questions.
I wrote articles for La Roche's magazine on pages 7, 11, 20, and 21. These articles are about the La Roche sports scene, an award-winning short-film produced by a La Roche student, & an interview with a professor about her literary biography.
This is an interview story with lead singer Rishi Bahl of Eternal Boy. I asked Rishi multiple questions about nostalgia in his music; how does it make his songs stronger? How does he use it as a marketing tool? The story went very well and Rishi said the questions were some of the best he has been asked.
Publication Design/Advertising
In a Writing for Advertising class, we had to create a strategy statement for a print ad. Afterwards, we created it. Our ad was for Heelys, the shoe/roller skate hybrid. Using nostalgia as a key factor in the advertisement, it targets young professionals.
With photography and Adobe Photoshop, I made a baseball card inspired by the 1952 Topps. I made the back entirely in Microsoft Publisher using various lines and shapes.
This is an assignment from my Publication Design class. Our goal was to create an album cover for an imaginary band our professor created. There were multiple choices, but mine was a punk band called "Lobsters, Guns, & Eddie." After multiple photoshoots, I finally found something I was happy with. I took the photo through some filters and touched them up in Photoshop. I completed the project in Microsoft Publisher.
In Publication Design, we had to tell a historic story with pictures in 50 words or less. I chose to show the evolution of Steelers' Jerseys
Video
This was a news broadcast project that I helped edit and produce. With a group of three, we each shared a story and produced news segments that looked real and professional. My section dealt with the Steelers' offseason moves and draft. We also produced a script for each story.
I co-directed this TV commercial for an advertising class. We were in a group of four and each of us played a part in putting this together. I focused on target markets and a creative brief, while others storyboarded and developed a separate digital campaign. Using Adobe Premiere and a Sony A7iii, we created an ad that targeted both the main Tech Deck market and multiple other potential clients.
