North American Air Masses Explained

In North America, there are five distinct air masses. An air mass is an area of air with horizontally uniform temperature, humidity, and pressure. Air masses cover many hundreds or thousands of kilometres and adapt to the characteristics of the surface below them.

Why Are Weather Forecasts Sometimes Wrong?

We've all heard the joke, "what job can you do wrong 50 percent of the time and still be employed... a meteorologist." This joke is getting old... and isn't an accurate representation of the industry. Some forecasts are indeed a bust, but now it is rare for a short term forecast to not be accurate.

Hot summer created challenges for west coast farmers - Kicker

Dry weather created challenges for western Newfoundland farmers in the middle of this summer, but crops later rebounded. This past summer was hot in western Newfoundland. Corner Brook recorded temperatures above 30 C on five days this year and above 25 C on 28 days.
