John Vardaman

Freelance Video Game Writer

United States

Hey there, I'm John Vardaman! I'm a native Hoosier who literally grew up in the cornfields of central Indiana. Firstly, here are some credentials: I received a degree in rhetoric and composition from Ball State University in 2014, and I also received a degree in journalism from IUPUI in 2019. Cool.

I love video games, technology, and music. Naturally, I also enjoy writing about those things. I play all sorts of stuff — from shooters to RPGs to rhythm games, I love getting into nerdy stuff like PC building and endlessly researching their constituent components, and I'm super into hardcore and metal music. Hey, maybe we could work something out where you let me write for you?

The Real Star of the Breath of the Wild 2 Teaser is Link's Mullet

After watching the newest teaser trailer for the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel, you may have been tricked into thinking that the coolest new developments that were shown off were Link's yucky/awesome Ashitaka demon tech arm, the flamethrower shield, or Link phasing through floors way up in the sky.

The Most Exciting Game Announcements at E3 2021

It's an awful, terrible time to have no money to spend on video games. Despite the magic of E3 being stripped away over the years by lackluster showings frompublishers, and the practicality of big industry events like this being questionable, E3 season remains for me one of the most exciting times of the year.

Scooters Cause Accessibility Issues for Disabled Students

Over the past two months motorized scooters have become a common sight in Indianapolis, and seem to be especially popular here on the IUPUI campus. The ubiquity of the scooters has provided an easily accessible and zippy transportation alternative for those looking to make long treks across campus a little easier on their feet, but the scooters do have have their drawbacks.
