I am recent graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in creative writing.
For two years, I covered UNCW sports for The Seahawk, the student paper, writing game recaps for a variety of teams and using Twitter to provide live updates. I also wrote feature articles for the biweekly print edition of The Seahawk, producing high-quality, original stories that showcased the accomplishments of student athletes and the difficulties of a mid-major school competing on a national level.
During the summer of 2014, I was an intern at the Brooklyn Arts Center, writing short, 500-word preview articles for upcoming events, as well as longer, 1,000-plus-word features and reviews of the various concerts and community events held at the BAC. Both the preview articles and the reviews appeared in the monthly newsletter, and my stories were in-depth, vibrant pieces that made the reader feel as if he or she had attended—or regret that he or she hadn't.

During her first season, Harris, who formerly coached at Division II Tusculum College before being hired in April 2012 at UNCW, had a depleted roster, signing only Kelva Atkins in her first recruiting class. Last season, Harris had a full recruiting class, which included six freshmen and four transfers, but only the freshmen and Kelva were eligible to play.
Entering the CAA Tournament, UNCW has a record of 12-3-2 overall (5-2-1 in the CAA) and finished tied for first with Delaware and Hofstra. Based on a head-to-head tiebreaker, Delaware will host the semifinals and finals as the top-seeded team, but the Seahawks will receive a first-round bye as the second-seeded team.
After Harris accepted the job at UNCW, she contacted Atkins and her family to inquire on her interest in coming to play for the Seahawks. After signing her letter of intent, she became Harris's first recruit and the only recruit she'd bring in during her first year as head coach.
"It's was tough, but I wanted the opportunity," Bambenek said. "This is my first head coaching opportunity ... so it was one of those things where all coaches have this chip on their shoulder, and they want to prove themselves. And this was my opportunity to do it.

Game Recaps
Campbell didn't miss a shot until the 12:49 mark of the first frame, and sophomore forward Amanda Coffer broke her career-high of 16 points with 9:22 left in the half. Coffer finished with 30 points, shooting 11-for-17 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
"I popped three balls up to right field, so I changed my approach," Golden said. "I told myself I was going to put that one on the ground and not pop it up. It was a solid pitch on the inside half and I tried hitting a hard groundball, and I guess it worked out perfect."

Written by John Arthur Levering At first glance, the Spring Flea at BAC resembles a flea market, but spend any amount of time at the three-day extravaganza and you soon see that "flea market" is an insufficient label, one that doesn't do it justice.
