Unable to Turn Away: Exploring Inescapable Experiences of Horror

My first foray into reading horror was when I was holed up in my dorm room devouring The Shining. Horror and thriller books are what I turn to when I need to be reminded of how exciting reading can be. While I love watching horror movies, there's something particularly haunting about reading scary stories.

How Reading Helped Me Stay Sober in Quarantine

I wish I could say I was a voracious reader as a child. For how much I love to write it's actually quite embarrassing to admit the opposite. My eyes couldn't keep up with my racing mind as I was overwhelmed by the urge to swallow the pages whole rather than to savor each word.
