For the first time in recorded history, more than half of the world's population is using the Internet or have had access to the internet. Of all regions, the strongest growth has been reported in Africa, where the percentage of people using the internet increased from 2.1 per cent in 2005 to 24.4 per cent in 2018, per Bloomberg report with mobile penetration being particularly a large reason for this growth.
