CUNY SPH Harlem Health Initiative Community Resources on HIV/AIDS

December 1 is World AIDS Day

What is World AIDS Day? Since 1988, communities all over the world unite together in solidarity to honor and remember lives lost to HIV and to fight against HIV stigma.

In 2024, there was a 5.4% increase in people newly diagnosed with HIV from 2023 in New York City, and inequities and disparities continue to remain as a challenge.

As we work together to end the epidemic, this year, in honor of the 38th #WorldAIDSDay, we focus on the theme: “Rising to the Challenge: Care, Connection, and Community”.

On this page, you will find a list of available local resources centered around:

CARE: learning about local services and resources are available for testing, prevention, care, and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS and those who serve our communities.

CONNECTION: learning more about how we can build and maintain relationships to eliminate HIV stigma, and

COMMUNITY: learning more about how you can support public health initiatives focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and advocacy, through training and workforce development.

Discrimination has destroyed the health of communities we love. Together, we can fix that. Activists founded Harlem United in a church basement in 1988. At a time of extreme stigma, they created a compassionate community for loved ones dying of AIDS. Today, we provide world-class HIV care.
