Eccles Theater premiere has big-city feel

Every so often, one finds oneself standing in the midst of an event and feeling "this feels like a different city; just doesn't feel like Salt Lake." Such was the case at Friday night's premier performance at the brand new $15 million George S. and Delores Dore Eccles Theater.

Broadway legend Alain Boublil visits Hale Centre Theatre

WEST VALLEY CITY - In the late 1970s, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg took the sweeping Victor Hugo tale "Les Miserables" and set it to music. Opening in Paris in 1980, the musical, which needs very little introduction in Utah, went on to sweep Broadway and enrapture international audiences, becoming the second-longest running musical in the world.

Setting the stage: Does Salt Lake Valley need a new 'Broadway' theater?

It's a summer evening in Denver. People sit at tables along a walkway enjoying their dinners. Some folks mill around, looking into windows and gazing at sculptures. Others enjoy drinks and snacks at many of the restaurants and bistros near the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the largest arts complex in the world.

McLean to help songwriters

Michael McLean, the brains and talent behind "The Forgotten Carols," more than 25 albums of LDS and inspirational music and plenty of TV commercial jingles you could sing along with, wants to help aspiring songwriters. In conjunction with "The Ark," which is now running at The Grand Theatre, McLean will conduct a songwriting workshop Friday that is free and open to the public.

Jazz pianist/volcalist Daina Krall thrills crowd at Red Butte Gardens

It must be nice - leave your mark on the world a la the Gershwins, Irving Berlin or The Beatles. And jazz pianist/singer Diana Krall toasted them all in her Red Butte Gardens concert on Wednesday night. As rain clouds threatened, crowds were undeterred, lining up before 3:30 p.m.

And out of that, if you click on "images," your screen will be filled with pictures of fabulous hats - more than 61,000 of them.
