Douglas Markowitz is a writer, editor, and critic covering art, music, film, travel, and other topics. He is the founding editor of Expo, a website covering global culture, and his work has appeared in The Art Newspaper, Resident Advisor, Artnet, Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, Artnet News, Grammy.com, scrmbl, the Miami Herald, the Sun Sentinel, and many other publications.
Douglas previously served as culture editor at the Phoenix New Times and currently serves as film critic for the Miami New Times. In 2023 he was named a finalist for the Esserman-Knight Journalism Awards and was nominated the following year for a Sunshine State Award by the Florida Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for his coverage of the local art scene. He joined the Florida Film Critics Circle in 2025.
He graduated with honors from the University of North Florida (B.S. in Communication) in 2017 and attended Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan on foreign exchange in 2016. He holds Canadian citizenship through his father, who was born and raised in Montreal. He is currently based in South Florida pending an upcoming relocation to New York.
