Deborah L. Bean is a native Texan raised during the height of the moon race, which piqued her interest in science-fiction from a young age. She became a single mother who struggled to raise two small children for almost ten years while working full-time and part-time and going to school part-time in order to better her life and the lives of her children. In 2016, she completed her Graduate Certificate in the Your Novel Year program at ASU's Piper Center for Creative Writing. In 2020, She completed the Writer’s Digest University Copyediting Certificate program.
Ms. Bean has had four technical manuals published. Her short story, Money Doesn't Come in the Mail, was published in the Story Circle Journal, September 2014. She won First Place from the Writers Guild of Texas for her flash fiction The Visiting Professor in 2016. In 2019, Ms. Bean received an Honorable Mention for the 3rd Quarter from Writers of the Future for her short story, Demons Out There. She was published in the 2019 anthology, Real Women Write: Growing / Older for her memoir short story, Why I Didn't Become a Young Writer and the 2020 anthology, Real Women Write: Living in COVID Times for COVID and I are Getting Old in Dallas.
Most recently. Ms. Bean had her memoir story, Snow Sled, published in The Knot Wound Round Your Finger (Bell Press Anthologies, 2021, pg. 58) and her science-fiction short story, Demons Out There serialized in January, April, & July 2022 by MockingOwlRoost.com.
Deborah Bean lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband, Neal Berkowitz, and two small dogs, Bailey and Kahlua.

Snow Sled is a heart-warming creative non-fiction story about the time I lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with my two small children. Barely older than a child myself, this story brings to life the struggles I endured to bring my children a happier life far from family and in a frozen tundra much different than the sunny shores of Texas where I was raised. The story is written tangentially with looks forward and back at incidents that occurred in our lives.
