This Ain't Over Yet, Folks

In my final video for NowThis, I addressed the post-election landscape with hopeful but clear-eyed optimism, offering space to mourn the results while creating positivity for the future. It's equal parts a history lesson, harkening back to the dour days following the 2004 election that unexpectedly gave rise to the Obama era, and a call to action, encouraging our community not to give up the good fightIn my final video for NowThis, I addressed the post-election landscape with hopeful but...

How to Kill Jason Voorhees

In a sea of superhero videos and gaming streams, 'How to Kill' found a niche and filled it, to great success. Horror content had yet to make a splash on YouTube, but our format was the perfect fit for fright fans, who left comments by the thousands dropping requests for newer and weirder subjects. A large part of 'How to Kill's' success came from our charismatic hosts, who I helped to grow into talented, refined presenters.

Faces and Heels

As part of NowThis Originals, I concepted, created, and pitched series for sale to a wide variety of platforms, from major streamers to social startups. One of my favorite accomplishments is 'Faces and Heels,' a docuseries built for Facebook Watch about the daily lives of women pro wrestlers on the independent circuit, filmed months before the pandemic would shake the industry to its core.

The banality of AI bullsh*t in times of crisis

The signs are obvious if you know what to look for: misshapen hands and body parts, missing fingernails, the distorted shape of a blurry boat off in the distance- and, of course, the unmistakable AI sheen that casts everything in an uncannily glossy, overly smooth pallor that is a dead giveaway to most sophisticated actors.

Stacey Abrams Nerds Out About Star Trek

Interviews were another specialty of mine at NowThis. Over the course of my tenure, I spoke with politicians and activists, actors and artists within the pop culture space, and even legendary athletes like Joey "Jaws" Chestnut and John Cena. My interview with Stacey Abrams about her love of all things 'Star Trek' is among my favorite memories at NowThis.

"HVAC Moose" on Affordable Housing

One of our goals on Impact was to create humorous, repeatable sketches that touched on economic issues while creating a permission structure for those who might bristle at the ideas being conveyed to take our side. Thus, I came up with "HVAC Moose," a parody of the ranting diatribes one often sees on social media but with a twist: he only gets mad at objectively good, consumer-friendly ideas, and in doing so helps sell them to the skeptical masses.

The Design Evolution of the Punisher

'Yellow Spandex' was NowThis Nerd's series on the colorful art of superhero costume design, but this episode in particular is a good example of my philosophy on progressive messaging. It's not apparent from the title, thumbnail, or most of the content, but by the end of the video you come away with a strong, topical political message against police abuse where a more didactic or lecturing tone might have turned off people who would otherwise be receptive to the message.
