Wellness
I am currently a 4th year English major at UCLA. I'm a senior editor for Her Campus at UCLA and also an intern for The Everygirl Media Group. Through my time at UCLA, I have learned the responsibilities of writing for a publication, collaborating on articles and ideas, and how to enhance my article with SEO keywords and photos.
I am looking for a chance to build more knowledge in the journalism and editorial field. I hope to continue writing for more lifestyle publications. I am most interested and passionate about writing wellness type of content whether that be mental or physical health, relationships, or food.
Wellness
Not that long ago, I was going through a super rough period in my life dealing with a terrible depressive episode and causing myself harm because I couldn't deal with it all alone. Because of how worried my family and friends were, I ended up deciding it was time that I needed more help and support than I was receiving.
Do you ever wake up in the morning and just not feel like yourself? We all have those days when we keep having so many negative thoughts and judgments about ourselves. It's even more challenging living in a society that is obsessed with social media, where we can constantly compare our lives to other people we see online.
I never expected myself to fall in love with any type of exercise. I always was the last person in my P.E. class to finish the mile, and during soccer practice, I spent 90 percent of my time picking the grass (and not running around the field).
The "new normal" of Zoom screens and mask-wearing has changed some students' perspectives on relationships, mindfulness and priorities. Katie Kester, a second-year molecular, cell and developmental biology student, said the pandemic allowed her to learn how important it is to foster relationships with others.
As Carrie Bradshaw once said, "Don't forget to fall in love with yourself first." In a world that celebrates busyness, it is often hard to feel happy with yourself and at peace with who you are. It is so easy to compare yourself with others and think that they are better than you, especially with people showcasing their lives all over the Internet.
Relationships
Being single is great and all until you have to sit through a dinner with your best friends and their boyfriends and you're just sitting there by yourself. It's like you are the odd one out. It can hurt to be surrounded by your friends in relationships, but sometimes being the only single friend has its benefits.
Whether you've been out of a relationship for a while or you're just going through a breakup, sometimes it is helpful to have an idea of what you want your next relationship to look like. It can be hard to start over with someone new, but it's important to know what you're looking for and...
Thanksgiving celebrations can be a heartwarming gathering of one's family and loved ones - but once politics are served at the dinner table, things can get messy. With the recent high-strung nature of the 2020 presidential election, family dinners this year are expected by someto be tenser than ever.
Going through a breakup is really painful and heartbreaking. Whether it was unexpected or not, it still leaves you with a feeling of sadness as you are losing someone who was once so close to you. As someone currently going through a breakup, I can tell you honestly that sometimes all you want to do is just lay and bed and cry.
