Women's History Month: Maria Spiropulu โ€“ Greek-American Physicist | WindyCity Greek

Maria Spiropulu, PhD, the top Greek experimental physicist of the Diaspora, hails from Kastoria. Dr. Spiropulu studied Physics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated in 1993. She went on to receive her PhD from Harvard University in 2000. For many years she has been involved in particle research on both sides of the Atlantic.

Women's History Month: Kallirhoe Parren โ€“ One of the First Greek Feminists

Kallirhoe Siganos graduated as a valedictorian from the Arsakeion High School for Teachers in 1878. Upon graduation, she was invited to Odessa, where she became director for the Girlsโ€™ School of the Greek community. When she returned to Athens she met and married the founder of the Athens News Agency, John Parren. Their acquaintance with important personalities of the period drove Kallirhoe to develop a passion for information on intellectual, political, and social issues.
