Arabella Roden

Journalist and Sub-Editor

Location icon Australia

I began my career as a sub at FAMOUS (Sydney, Australia) in 2010. Our close-knit and talented team created a fun, aspirational and conversational weekly magazine focused on celebrity news, fashion and beauty. We became a top seller, and crested the wave of social media as apps like Instagram completely altered the nature of celebrity. 'FAMOUS' inspired my passion for lifestyle journalism - a passion that carried me to London, where I began working for 'OK!' in 2014 as a senior sub and staff writer. I branched out into travel writing and had the opportunity to experience incredible destinations across Europe and the Caribbean, as diverse as Croatia, Sweden and Tobago. After more than four years in London, I felt the call of home and am now based in Melbourne, where I work full-time at B2B magazine 'Jeweller' honing my skills in business journalism. I am also a contributing writer for fashion and lifestyle site TheTrendSpotter.net, in between discovering new cafés and planning my next trip...

'Romancing The Stone'

I had a lot of latitude with the direction of this feature, which required extensive research and interviews. It was extremely satisfying to complete and was featured on the website of the Natural Color Diamond Association in the US.

'Yes You Dominican!'

This article profiled the new Sensatori By TUI Resort in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic's premier holiday destination. The all-inclusive family holiday is a British institution, and I got to experience the relaxation and luxury in a tropical paradise. Between poolside daiquiris, we were also able to explore the incredible jungle, smoke world-famous Dominican cigars, and try the local tonic 'Mama Juana'!

'Tuck Into Turkey'

OK! Spa Editor Nancy Brown commissioned me to write this piece, centred on the Elysion Spa at the Hilton Dalaman Sarigerme Resort in southern Turkey. My first visit to the Mediterranean nation, I was charmed by Turkey's incredible landscapes and delicious food, as well as its rich culture. Despite the political unrest at the time, my stay in Dalaman felt as safe and luxurious as any other holiday.

'On The Pula!'

Who could pass up the opportunity to visit Croatia? I travelled to Pula (the northern tip of this Mediterranean gem) which lies just a ferry ride away from Venice. There, I walked in the footsteps of Sir Elton John - who stayed at the same hotel - and the Romans, who'd colonised Pula centuries before and left an almost intact amphitheatre, which now hosts summer festivals.

'Bellissimo!'

My first spa-focused piece, this feature took me to the turquoise shores of Lago d'Iseo in northern Italy. I stayed at the glorious L'Albereta Relais & Chateaux, which is home to a five-star Chernot spa and an acclaimed restaurant. L'Albereta later played host to Serena Williams herself, who stayed in the same suite as me!

'Swiss Me Quick'

Taking to the slopes in celebrity-soaked Verbier was one of the highlights of my life! This feature had one of the fastest turnarounds of my writing career; I was flying into Geneva, hurtling down the piste and filing my copy within a few days. Verbier had a terrible start to the ski season that year, but a late dump of snow in mid-January meant the tourism board was keen to convince British tourists to take a quick winter break. The piece was designed to appeal to budget-conscious Britons,...

'Go Tobago!'

This trip was put together by the Trinidad & Tobago Tourism Board, and was designed to expose British tourists to the lesser-known - but no less special - Caribbean island. The highlight of the Tobagonian year is the Tobago Jazz Experience festival, which sees A-list international performers and local Soca legends descend on the tiny island for one amazing weekend of music. Back in 2015, the headliners were Kool & The Gang, Jennifer Hudson and Miguel, who I was lucky enough to meet. I'll...
